Legal Basis for Processing
Where the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) applies (e.g. when you use the app from the EU), the processing of your data is based on the following legal grounds:
- Consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR): for access to your location, which you grant through your device's system permissions.
- Legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR): in providing the app's core features (weather data, flight status, flight window and AI briefing).
For users in Switzerland, the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (FADP) applies. It does not require a comparable list of legal grounds but is based on similar principles (purpose limitation, proportionality, transparency).
What Data We Process
Location (Weather Data and Flight Status)
With your permission, xPilot Sky accesses your current location to show you weather data, the flight status ("Ready to fly", "Caution", "Do not fly") and the best flight window for your location.
- Your location is only accessed to display weather data and is not stored or logged by us.
- To retrieve weather data, the coordinates are sent to Open-Meteo (open-meteo.com), an external weather data provider. For technical reasons, Open-Meteo also receives your device's IP address. We do not store this data ourselves. For information on how Open-Meteo handles the data it receives, please see Open-Meteo's privacy policy.
- This transfer may involve data being transferred to countries outside Switzerland or the EU/EEA. We only use providers that offer appropriate safeguards for the protection of your data (e.g. EU Standard Contractual Clauses, where applicable).
- You can revoke location access at any time in your device's system settings. Weather data for your current location will then no longer be available.
Flight Spots
You can save locations as flight spots in xPilot Sky to check their flight status at any time.
- Your saved flight spots are stored exclusively on your device.
- To display weather data for a flight spot, its coordinates are sent to Open-Meteo as described above.
